Workshops
We can organise the below courses or something more ad-hoc on a one-to-one basis or as a group. Please contact us for any queries.
Make a ring or earrings in a day - € 120
By the end of the day each participant will have made a finished ring or earrings in silver. The day includes up to 8g of silver and all the materials for the creative process. The day will start with a brief talk on health and safety and an introduction to the tools and machines of the jewellery lab. We will discuss the mixing of metals and the materials involved before continuing with a hands-on making session. Each student will anneal (soften), texture, form and solder their piece before finishing it to a professional standard. If you wish to make something else please let us know in advance so that we can prepare and advise.
2-day Introduction to Jewellery techniques - € 220
This workshop can be taken on two consecutive days or on two separate days within a two-week period. In this workshop you will learn all the techniques necessary to create one or more pieces of jewellery including: piercing, filing, forming, soldering, annealing, polishing, texturing.
It is suitable for both complete beginners who wish to make something for themselves or as a present, and for those who have some experience they would like to apply and develop. Typically, by the end of the course you will be leaving with a ring and a pair of earrings, or one more elaborate piece of jewellery.
20-hour introduction to silver jewellery - € 250
This workshop can be taken on four mornings or afternoons over a one/two week period. It may be possible to rework broken or undesired gold jewellery into something new depending on the amount of gold you have. It is aimed at adults who wish to broaden their artistic skill set, perhaps considering starting jewellery as a regular hobby. It is likely that students taking this longer workshop will require more silver than the basic 8g.
We invite participants to wear sensible clothes and footwear (not open top footwear) and bring reading glasses if they need them to do close up work.
The laboratory is easily accessible on the ground floor of a listed building on one of the main streets of Todi. Drinking water and tea are available in the workshop. Several bars, restaurants and pizzerias are just outside.
We conduct our workshops at our custom made communal jeweller's benches, where participants can sit together socially at least one metre from one another and with their own individual space to work.
Additional materials are available to purchase from Art Lab on the day at a price to cover costs. Participants wishing to make jewellery using their own gold will need to tell us in advance so we can prepare and advise.
All courses are suitable for adults and children from 14 years of age. Courses are not suitable for children under 14 years unless accompanied by an adult.
